Gestalt Practice Training Program: A modular approach to professional development

First Core Model Module (Module I): March 20-21, 2010

The Gestalt Practice Training Program (The Program) is for those who have "fire in their bellies" to learn the foundation knowledge and skills for competent and ethical Gestalt practice. This practice model and training methods represent the approach developed through over fifty years of training Gestalt practitioners at The Gestalt Institute of Cleveland.

We have designed a rigorous training program with a flexible schedule which allows practitioners to proceed at a pace that matches their time and financial resources.

We enjoy personalized mentoring relationships with students who are committed to their development as Gestalt practitioners.

Program Design:

The Program is organized into modules which may be completed over an extended period of time and which are inter-connected. The training sequence begins with the Core Model Module (Module I). Each subsequent module builds upon this Core Model Module in an additive and integrative manner. Trainees begin their training with Module I and continue at their own pace.

The sequence of Program modules will be repeated over a three-year cycle.  Module I and some other modules will be will be presented more frequently than others over the three year period to allow new trainees to join the module sequence.  Each module will “stand on its own.”*

This schedule allows trainees to proceed in their professional development in ways that minimize interruptions with work and personal responsibilities.

The full complement (Ten modules) of Program training activities comprises the foundation in personal development, knowledge and skills for Gestalt practice with individual clients.

Participation in modules I, XI, XXII and XVI and attendance in 90% of each of the ten modules is required for program completion.

Program components:

Personal/Professional Development Plan

We proceed from the premise that practitioners are the instruments of their work and as such they are responsible for doing their personal and professional development work to be the most refined instrument possible.

We encourage each participant to develop a Personal/Professional Development Plan (PPDP) within their mentoring relationship that may include: Personal and/or relationship therapy, academic course work and/or developmental workshops to strengthen less well-developed knowledge areas or other activities as may become apparent within their Plan.

This plan may provide direction and focus for work within the mentoring relationship, such as attending to aspects of practice, counter-transference reenactments and personal development issues.

Due upon acceptance to hold a place in the learning community: $100
